The 27 ministers responsible for cohesion met in Mons for an informal ministerial meeting of general affairs.
This meeting focused on the future of the cohesion policy.
Cohesion policy is the principal long-term investment policy of the European Union (EU). It aims to reduce the social and economic disparities between the different regions of the EU. Furthermore, it strengthens cooperation between regions, particularly across borders.
The meeting was chaired by Elio Di Rupo, Minister-President of Wallonia. The European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, and the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, were also attending.
